The goat is behind door number three!

OK - If you don't get the title and your geekdom enjoys the occasional stroll down nerd lane - look up "The Monty Hall Problem". There is a nice youtube video.

So doors and other dungeon accessories from the FS series (mostly) have come off my paint table this week.  They match the dungeon tiles set.

I need to retake several individual pictures with the remote cable as the smaller pieces were hard to focus and came out a bit blurred - here are the ones that didn't::

I'm heading to Adepticon on Thursady. I will be there all weekend in the role of staff photographer. Stop me and say hello if you are there. I'll be the guy with the camera and "Caius" on my name badge.  Cheers.

April 1st - Surprised Demon

It's April - Three months into the year and my count is 32 finished out of 100 for the year (counting the double tiles). And I have about that many again based and started.

This guy has been on my workbench for well over a year - finally got the eyes where I wanted them.

FF1 The Fiend - He looks very surprised to me - maybe the victim of a April fools prank?

Also finished - Or perhaps a better term is abandoned since this guy is not the best sculpt and a pain in the butt to paint - FS11-1 Hunchback Beggar on Crutch.

Finally for this week - I added base details to the two FF7-1 death worms - Aren't they cute?

Cheers all - and Happy Spring

This counts as February

This counts as February - They were finished but I had to wait for an order of Testors "Figure Flat" (Floquil Dullcoat to you aged ones). I was all out and, despite trying some other locally available brands, am yet to find an acceptable substitute.

I spent the first couple of months this year painting a couple of matching sets of the Citadel FS series dungeon tiles. The trapdoors, rats, bugs, eggs, sleeping dog, etc etc.  All in all there are 17 (16 different since the large trap doors came in a pack of two).

Looking at the pictures (its always interesting to see ones work brightly illuminated and magnified) I may go back and ink some more irregularity to the cobblestones.

With a few extras my count for February 2012 is 23/100 (is that cheating?)

Since we are into March and my Blogging regularity is pathetic Here are a couple more from last week (almost fished - they need some sticks and leaves and some highlights on the flagstones)

FF7-1 + Variant

January 2012

Looks like i'm off to a slow start (to much real life stuff going on). To meet this years goal I need to paint an average of 8 figures a month. In January I got lots started but only four done. I'm working on a full set of the FS dungeon tiles. There are 16 so as long as I get them all done in February I'll be on track.

Since I don't have any pictures yet I'll go with something of a cop out and show some pictures of my work space and figure storage system:

Most of my figures are stored in plastic trays used by jewelers. They are inexpensive (couple of bucks each) and come with a variety of available insert compartment trays or foam (also very inexpensive). I get them from gemsondisplay.com

Resolution Kept

My new year's resolution for 2011 was to paint an average of 1 Citadel preslotta figure per week for a total of 52. I reached that goal in November which is just as well because in December I have been to busy with a combination of work and holiday stuff to paint. Note to self for next year: A lot of December gets taken up with decorating and shopping (searching Ebay for things for other people instead of old lead is so strange).

So goal for next year - 100 more to add to the collection below. Nearly doubling the amount is a challenge but I feel like I'm finding my painting rhythm and the FS dungeon floor tiles and furniture and groups of similar figs like Red Orcs and Fantasy Tribe skeletons should make it do-able, particularly now I have my basing system sorted out. Besides 52 figures didn't make much of a dent in the lead mountain and I'd really like to fool myself into thinking that its getting smaller.

Merry Christmas all, and success in your painting projects for 2012

Cheers, Caius

Add the two FS wizards on thrones for 52

And so to battle:
Cardboard dungeon floor is holding up nearly as well as the lead

Late for Halloween

Lots of monsters getting wrapped up as the year deadline starts to close in:

FF Undead

Glowing blue eyes on the center ghoul definitely inspired by reading too much Fire and Ice over the last couple of months - not sure I'm going to bother with book 5 though.

Bloodworm

Yes I decided to go with a scheme other than blood red

Flyman

So many of these figures are hard to do justice to - this guy is no exception.

Goblin Family

Difficult to know what to do with the goblin girl in the center - such a simple figure I decided to keep her very plain

More very soon

A Game of FS Fives

The FS5 thrones seem to be one of the most enduring of the older citadel models. They often show up in lots of old Ral Partha or Grenadier models on ebay. Presumably they were added to those collections because those ranges lacked an equivalent. Of course they are mostly missing the wizard and almost always missing the lectern.

Just to prove my point - having just painted the two on either side I found the one in the middle two weeks ago in an auction lot at a small convention.

My version of FS5-1:

And FS5-2

OK I've taken dozens of pictures today - so I'll have a couple more updates very soon.

7 weeks to go - at 11 miniatures to finish - some of them are nearly done

Cheers
